Frequently Asked Questions
- Q. Do you alter the original image?
- No, all our services are produced digitally, the original is untouched and will be returned to you as it was received.
- Q. Can I see my photograph before printing?
- Yes, as part of our service we will e-mail you either a water marked image, a low resolution image or alternatively arrange a password protected webpage for you to view your photos.
- Q. I do not have the original photograph I want restored - are you able to restore slides or negatives?
- Yes, at an extra cost we can provide this service - please contact us for an estimate. In actual fact scanning off a negative frequently helps to create a better finished picture as it is frequently less damaged.
- Q. How long will it take once you receive my photos?
- Almost every order is different depending on the amount of restoration, retouching or special effects required. We aim to complete your order within 7 days but quick turnarounds are available. Please call us for an estimate on rush orders.
- Q. How do I send you my photographs?
- You can send us your photographs by post, e-mail to this site(as long as its below 10 MB)or use a free upload service. Click the following link for more details of a free upload service at mailbigfile - the maximum file is 100 MB.
- Q. Will your pictures last?
- Yes, we print on Fuji Standard Crystal Archive Photographic Paper with a fade resistance rated at in excess of 100 years - for more details of this paper click here.
- Q. Do you work with colour photographs?
- Yes. We can correct colour photos, black and white, sepia etc. and can convert any of these to any other type.
- Q. Will my original picture be safe?
- Yes. Your picture will be scanned using a professional quality (Epson) machine, and the result stored on a hard drive together with a off site backup facility.
Once scanned your original is stored safely pending return. - Q. Can you only work with prints?
- No. We can work with any type of two dimensional original; print (any size), negative & slide (up to A4 size).
- Q. Can you enlarge a small picture, or part of a picture?
- Yes. However, extreme scale enlargements quite often reveal faults and defects that don't show on the original. We will contact you if the enlargement is likely to make the picture unacceptably pixelate, blocky, fuzzy or unattractive.
It is possible to remove these faults but it does require quite extensive work to complete this - contact us for a quote. - Q. What sizes can you print?
- Any size up to 20 x 30 inches or banner size, i.e. school panoramas. Please check with us first for the cost of any unusual photo size.
- Q. Can you make a fuzzy picture sharp?
- A little sharpening is possible on some pictures. However we cannot correct pictures that are basically out of focus.
- Q. Can you replace missing parts of a picture?
- Yes. If the missing part is an extension of the rest of the picture (such as grass, or a wall) we can probably clone from the original. Complex areas may be replaced by using another photograph where the missing detail can be seen or painted by hand which can have cost implications.
- Q. Can you combine pictures or subjects?
- Yes. Send all the pictures you want combined together with clear instructions about what elements are to be combined on the new picture. Take care to label any individuals carefully so we know who's who. We will then contact you to confirm that we understand your requirements and quote you a price.
- Q. Can I send a scan I have made myself?
- Yes. We offer some scanning advice please click this Scanning Tips link for more information.
- Q. Is there a choice of paper finishes?
- Yes. You can choose gloss, satin or matt finishes; matt is the default. Please specify what paper you require when ordering.
- Q.Can I have reprints?
- Yes. Your restored picture will be stored on our backup server for 1 month so extra prints can be ordered before that time has expired.
- Q. How do you work out what to charge?
- Our prices are calculated on our experience of how long a restoration or an edit can take. If for example you want a picture restored, edited and then digitally hand-tinted, it will take much longer to produce than just a simple restoration, and the cost will be higher.
- Q. Is your work guaranteed?
- Yes. If for whatever reason you are not satisfied with our work, return the print within 10 days and we will refund you in full ( Please note that does not apply to canvases) - for more information please refer to our full Terms & Conditions and our 100% satisfaction guarantee.
